A cute story

I have been a long time fan of the Olympics; both winter and summer, for as long as I can remember. Watching the opening ceremonies on tv gives me the chills (in a good way). The stories the countries tell through music, art, costume, dance, song, and elaborate set designs, gives me a sense hope and wonder of what’s going to happen this year? What country will take the lead in gold medals? What athlete will conquer his/her sport that they worked so excruciatingly hard to be the best at? And, what athletes will crash and burn simply because of their celebrity ego has taken a hold of them?

Well, a few days ago, Willy and I were watching “Ski Jumping.” I was amazed that an athlete could gain so much momentum while racing down a skinny track, and literally fly into the air at full speed, while landing on their feet just seconds later. I showed my son, who was playing with his beloved Thomas trains near by. I said to him, “Look, buddy. Their flying!” And then we would clap for them and get ready for the next country’s jumpers to take their place.

A little while later while I was in the bedroom folding laundry, I hear my son going berzerk in the next room. I fly out to the living room where I find him jumping up and down yelling, “LOOK, THEIR FLYING! THEIR FLYING!” He was completely enthralled. I took a few minutes to sit down with him and watch the athletes fly through the air, and then land with nothing more than grace and ease. Willy let out a huge “WOW” when a commercial came, and then went back to his trains.

I was just so excited that I could share something wonderful and exciting with my little boy, who really seemed to appreciate it.
